✨ What This Channel Is All About
Catch On Fire Podcasts focuses on the powerful intersection between Bible teaching, historical insight, and practical discipleship. Each episode is built around Scripture—individual verses, full chapters, Bible themes, or theological concepts. But understanding the Bible requires more than reading the words on the page. It requires knowing why those words were written, who they were written to, and how those truths continue to speak to us today.
That’s why this channel combines historical background, biblical context, and modern application to help Scripture come alive. By examining the culture, customs, and worldview of biblical times, we uncover deeper meaning and discover how God’s message remains relevant for every believer.
Episodes also connect Scripture to current events, daily struggles, real-life scenarios, and personal growth—because the Bible is not a book of ancient stories; it is the living Word of God that continues to instruct, correct, and guide us.
Whether you’re seeking encouragement, clarity, or a deeper understanding of God’s truth, Catch On Fire Podcasts provides teaching that is easy to follow, spiritually enriching, and grounded in sound Christian doctrine.

What Really Happened When Jesus Restored Peter
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Have you ever failed Jesus so badly you wondered if you were disqualified for good? We sit with Peter in the raw moment where he curses and denies even knowing Jesus, and then we walk with him into one of the most personal restoration scenes in the Bible, John 21 on the shoreline, by a charcoal fire. This is a Bible teaching story about grace, mercy, repentance, and how Jesus rebuilds a life without pretending the failure never happened.
We trace three anchors that keep showing up in real Christian discipleship: sometimes we don’t recognize Jesus when he’s right in front of us, our best efforts can be completely fruitless when Jesus isn’t at the center, and Jesus’ call does not change even after our worst night. The miracle of the overflowing net is more than a cool detail, it’s a reminder that obedience and dependence reshape outcomes, and that God still has room in his family for all who believe.
Along the way, we talk about God’s provision in Scripture and in history, from the coin in the fish’s mouth to answered prayer that funds impossible missions. We also connect Peter’s courtyard denial to the shore-side charcoal fire, where Jesus gives Peter three chances to say what’s true and then speaks the same words again: “Follow me.” We close with an invitation to pray for real change, spoken declarations of life, and Psalm 23 as a steadying promise for anyone rebuilding their faith.
If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs restoration, and leave a review so more people can find this Christian podcast and Bible study teaching. What part of your story needs Jesus to meet you on the shore today?
Catch On Fire Podcasts aims to lead us all into a closer walk with God as we strive to become more like Jesus.
Peter’s Failure And Jesus’ Grace
SPEAKER_00Has anyone ever failed Jesus so badly that you wondered if he could still use you? Peter did. He cursed and swore that he didn't even know Jesus three times. Yet after the resurrection, Jesus didn't reject him. He restored him with love, with a charcoal fire, and with three simple questions. Today we are diving into one of the most beautiful restoration stories in the Bible and what it means for every one of us who has ever blown it. In this episode, we'll look at how Jesus extended grace and mercy to Peter through three themes. First, we may not recognize Jesus when he shows up. Second, our efforts are fruitless when Jesus is not at the center. Third, Jesus' call and instructions remain the same. Stay with me as we hear and respond positively to Jesus' call to follow him. Imagine working really hard and not accomplishing the desired objective. The majority of the disciples had been fishermen before following Jesus. One of the hazards of this trade is that one might go to fish and come back with nothing after hours of toil. In Luke 5, when Jesus calls the first disciples, they had been fishing all night and had nothing to show for their efforts. Jesus instructed them to go out into the deep and cast their nets and they would find fish there. When they did so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. They then signaled a partner to bring another boat. The two boats then filled with fish to such an extent that the boat began to sink. Here in John 21, once again these disciples have fished all night and have caught no fish. When these men went out to sea it was early evening, probably between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. It was now between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. These men had toiled for at least six hours. Jesus told them to throw the net on the right side of the boat and they would find fish. When they did, they were unable to haul the net into the boat because of the large number of fish. The net was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Symbolically, the net held all of this fish without being broken, just as a church has room for all who will believe on the name of Jesus. Let us reflect on the truth that Jesus came, died, and rose again, so that we may be part of the family of God. On previous occasions, Jesus had likewise directed the disciples to precisely procure whatever was needed. In Matthew 17, Peter was accosted by the collector of the temple tax, who inquired as to whether or not Jesus had been paying the tax. Peter affirmed that Jesus did so. Jesus told Peter to go to the lake and throw out his line. Peter was to take the first fish that he caught, open its mouth, and there he would find a four-drachma coin. Peter was to use that coin to pay his and Jesus' taxes. Are we aware that God always provides? Throughout history, God has constantly come to the aid of those who believe that God will provide. In 1931, Norman Grubb informed his staff that God wanted the missionary organization to send 10 missionaries to the Congo within the next seven months. It would cost the mission about 2,000 pounds to do so. The previous month, after expenses, they had one pound left. Norman Grubb and his staff committed to praying to God for the exact details. The 10 missionaries and the 2,000 pounds were all fulfilled five days before the stated date. Let us reflect on the truth that our God is a prayer hearing and answering God. Imagine that in a moment of weakness you denied being friends with someone you love dearly because of societal pressure. After the Roman soldiers took Jesus away, Peter followed Jesus into the high priest's palace. Luke 22 tells us that a fire had been kindled in the middle of the palace courtyard and those present, including Peter, had gathered around this fire. Matthew 26, 69 to 71 tells us that while Peter was there, a servant girl came to him and stated, You also were with Jesus of Galilee. Peter replied, I don't know what you're talking about. Peter went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth. This time Peter added some profanity to his response as he stated once again, I don't know the man. After a little while, those who were standing there went up to Peter and said, Surely you're one of them. Your accent gives you away. Peter then used even more curse words as he swore to them, I don't know the man. Peter had denied Jesus three times by the time the night was over. Let us pray that we may always acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Master. John 21, 1 to 19 tells us of the interaction with Jesus and Peter on the shore. It was early in the morning, so it's probably not quite warm yet. Jesus had a fire of burning coals ready so that the disciples could warm themselves. The Greek word that is used here for fire of coals or charcoal and trachean only occurs twice in the New Testament. It is used here when Peter warmed himself over a charcoal fire as he betrayed Jesus. Three times Peter had denied Jesus publicly. Here on the shore, Jesus gives Peter the opportunity to publicly express how much he loves Jesus three times. Jesus leaves Peter with the same words that he spoke when he first called Peter. Follow me, be my disciple. So much has taken place between that first follow me and this follow me. Three years of ministry, faithfully following Jesus, witnessing great miracles, the crucifixion, the days of the spear, followed by the ecstasy of the knowledge of the resurrection. Amidst all of these seasons of change, Jesus' call to Peter remained the same. Follow me. Peter went on to preach to three thousand on the day of Pentecost. Peter became a stalwart of the faith. What if Jesus is standing on the shore of our life right now? Will we answer the call to follow him and be his disciple? Jesus restores all who repent of mistakes that they may have made. John 20 tells us that the apostle Thomas was not present when Jesus initially showed himself to the other disciples on Resurrection Sunday. Thomas refused to believe that Jesus was alive unless he saw the nail marks in Jesus' hands and was able to put his hand into Jesus' side. A week later, Jesus appeared amongst the disciples even though the doors were locked. Thomas then acknowledged Jesus as his Lord and his God. According to early Christian tradition, the Apostle Thomas started the Church of the East in the region around Upper Mesopotamia, modern-day southeastern Turkey. Let us reflect on the truth that Jesus restores us to perform ministry. Christian history teaches us that often for God to use us to do a mighty work, we have to relinquish the current tasks. In 2002, Clause Dieta John was serving as a missionary surgeon in Ecuador. He was told that a young American female surgeon would be coming to work with him. His initial response was to reject the surgeon as he did not want to share the operating room with anyone. His wife reminded him that he wanted to build a hospital and he would need time to put the plans together. Claus Dieter John and his wife Martina then went on to raise funds to build a hospital in Peru, which opened in 2007. The hospital includes 55 beds, four operating theaters, an intensive care unit, laboratory and x-ray departments. It is within a three-hour drive of around 750,000 people, the vast majority of whom speak no Spanish. The clinic offers comprehensive medical care to the local people. Are we aware that God wants to use us mightily for his glory? We started today by asking a very personal question. Have you ever failed Jesus so badly that you wondered whether he could still use you? As we've walked through Peter's story on that beach after the resurrection, we've seen three powerful truths. Sometimes we don't recognize Jesus when he shows up in our circumstances. Our hardest efforts can feel completely fruitless when Jesus isn't at the center. Best of all, no matter how badly we fail him, Jesus' call to us never changes. Let us commit to giving God the best of our lives for the rest of our lives as we follow Jesus faithfully. Before you go, if this message spoke to you, like this podcast and subscribe so you don't miss what God is doing here at Catch on Fire Podcasts. If you're ready for real change, take a moment right now to pray with me. Jesus, I give you my life. Lead me, forgive me, and make me new. If you pray that, welcome to the family. Follow along, stay connected, and let's walk this walk together. Please join me as we confess words of life over all of our lives. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are still holding on to God's unchanging hand. We are still in God's holy plan. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are living holy lives as God requires. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, giving clothes to those in need, ministering to the sick and visiting those in prison, and we are doing so to the least of those among us, as when we do so we are ministering to Jesus. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we have received healing, as by his stripes we are healed. From the crown of our head to the soles of our feet, all of our bodily organs are working correctly. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that God is ordering our steps, that all weapons that are formed against us have been utterly and completely destroyed, and every tongue that is rising against us in judgment is condemned. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that all generational curses are cancelled. Anything that runs in our ancestral bloodline that is not of God has no power over us, our children and our grandchildren, and is eliminated forever right now. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that angels are watching over and keeping our family, our children, our grandchildren, our loved ones safe. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that every negative word that has been and is being spoken over our lives and that of our family, children, grandchildren, and loved ones is cancelled and sent back to the pit from whence it came. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are the head and not the tail. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are not and will never be ashamed. Our enemies have not and never will triumph over us. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that anything that is not of God that has been dispatched to hinder our blessings, our progress, and our well-being is immediately destroyed. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are financially in line with God's word, and as such we are lenders and not borrowers. As a result, all of our debts have been paid and are forgiven. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that the enemy of our souls has no authority over our finances and our funds, and that we are good stewards of the money that God has placed in our keeping. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that in the area of business and our carriers, that just as Isaac reaped a hundredfold, the blessings of Abraham are falling on us, and we are reaping a hundredfold from whatever we put our hands to. We declare and decree in the name of Jesus that we are living under an open heaven in every area of our lives. Blessings are falling on us, our family and our loved ones. These blessings are being manifested in our lives, in the spiritual and in the physical. Let's repeat the 23rd Psalm together. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restored my soul. He leaded me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Amen.
